ARCATA, Humboldt County — October 26, 2026. Arcata residents voting on Measure G on November 3 are deciding whether to renew the city’s existing three-quarter-cent transactions and use tax — not whether to add a new 0.75 percentage point increase on top of today’s tax.
What happens if voters approve renewal?
The city says the existing 0.75% tax was approved by voters in 2008. It is scheduled to expire March 31, 2029 without renewal. If Measure G passes, the combined Arcata sales-tax rate would remain at 10.25% under the currently stated structure, and the local share would continue until voters choose to repeal it. The proposal would not automatically cause the rate to rise on November 4.
What does the existing tax fund?
City information describes projects and general municipal services including street maintenance, potholes, sidewalks, bike lanes, multi-use paths and public-safety staffing. Humboldt County’s voter materials say the measure includes audits and oversight provisions, while city officials estimate continuing revenue of approximately $2.8 million annually. Estimates do not earmark a fixed amount to every street or organization.
Other city contests
Arcata voters also will select two members of City Council in the November 3 election. City Clerk Rhea Varley lists 707-825-2103 and rvarley@cityofarcata.org for election questions.
Yes would approve continuing the existing local tax beyond the 2029 expiration; no would not approve its proposed extension. California58 does not endorse either outcome. Sources: Arcata’s Measure G history and 2026 extension information, city election portal and county ballot resources.
