ARCATA, Humboldt County — October 24, 2026. Paving crews are working across several Arcata neighborhoods as part of a city maintenance program that began September 21 and is expected to continue in stages through late 2026. According to a City of Arcata public notice dated October 12, weather may push some work into January 2027, making the city’s ongoing updates more reliable than a single estimated completion day.

Which streets are included?

The city identifies work on Eye Street, Grant Street between Jay and Eye streets, Todd Court, Ross Street, Fickle Hill Road between Park Avenue and Bayside Road, Shirley Boulevard, Boyd Road north of Giuntoli Lane, and LK Wood Boulevard from Granite Avenue to St. Louis Road.

These are the corridors listed in the citywide project notice, not a claim that all eight have active construction on any particular afternoon. Traffic arrangements change by phase; residents should check signage, cones and any later city alert before assuming a road is closed or free of restrictions.

What work is actually planned?

The city describes sidewalk infill and repairs, resurfacing with asphalt pavement and new thermoplastic pavement striping. Those categories address different problems. Missing sidewalk segments affect wheelchair access, strollers and pedestrian continuity. Pavement surfaces affect comfort and vehicle wear, while visible lane markings help drivers recognize the road layout.

Arcata contracted RAO Construction for the work. City information lists a regular workweek of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some extended days running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Heavy machinery is not to operate before 8 a.m. under the city’s stated direction. Those hours describe anticipated construction activity; they are not permission to disregard different posted traffic control arrangements.

What should neighbors, drivers and businesses do?

Someone expecting a delivery, arranging mobility transportation, traveling to a class or scheduling a move should look for the latest city notice and plan extra time. The notice urges travelers to follow traffic signs and workers’ instructions. Drivers should not assume street parking can remain unchanged throughout a resurfacing or striping phase.

For a specific project concern, the city identifies RAO Construction at 707-443-2118 and City of Arcata at 707-825-2150. Include the street and cross street when reporting a problem, together with when the issue occurred.

Where it fits into the wider Humboldt transportation picture

This city maintenance program differs from county-managed roadwork in unincorporated McKinleyville. Arcata and Humboldt County oversee different road networks, and residents should send inquiries to the agency responsible for the actual location.
